‘The Versace Experience – Prelude 2 Gold’ sold for over $4,000 through the site.
The most expensive cassette ever sold in Discogs history is now an ultra-rarePrince tape. How ultra-rare? It was only ever handed out in a small batch, at the Versace collection at Paris Fashion Week in 1995. It sold for $4,087.
The Versace Experience – Prelude 2 Gold features 15 previously unreleased tracks, including rare edits and remixes of tracks that did eventually see the light of day on the artist’s 1995 LP The Gold Experience.
The cassette sale nearly doubled the previous record holder for most expensive tape vended through Discogs. In 2014, someone bought a 26-volume Throbbing Gristle box set for $2,200. Groove trumps industrial on this one, and since Prince passed so suddenly earlier this year, it seems only right that superfans should max out their credit cards for a small piece of his legacy.
